The old jujitsu techniques of the 12 schools (kujitsu) could be categorized into eight major groups. The first scenario is the orthodox man on man struggle. With the man on man struggle, you work hard to get your opponent on the floor, down, or over some part of your body. Once there, you use leg-wringing movements (as in "Chinese leg wrestling", leg-sweeps, and hip throws) as well as downward strikes to keep him there. The second scenario is the three-on-one struggle. In this scenario, you defend yourself against multiple attackers. The third scenario is the hair-pulling struggle. You pull hair as a distraction or for leverage. The fourth is the tickle-fight scenario. The fifth scenario is the bodyguard scenario. Here, you keep an opponent at arm's length and fend off attacks on your body or face. The sixth scenario is the "under the" defense. Here, there are multiple attackers and you contend with them. The seventh scenario is for the single wicked fighter. In this case, you fight him with just one arm and one hand because you are doing an ui no kosho technique. You use many arm and leg movements, lock-on techniques, and high-low and high-high techniques. The final scenario is the "handed" situation. In this case, the opponent has both of his hands free in order to attack you. In such circumstances a high-low, high-high, or lock-on technique might be successful. Each of these scenarios involve leg-wringing movements and combinations of movement to achieve the desired goal. This is what is called the "fundamental techniques of jujitsu." d2c66b5586
